Today at 4:24pm Edit Note Delete
30 Things About My Invisible Illness You May Not Know
1. The illness I live with is: Type 1 Diabetes
2. I was diagnosed with it in the year: September 1997
3. But I had symptoms since: The previous summer
4. The biggest adjustment I’ve had to make is: Counting everything.
5. Most people assume: Diabetes is totally manageable and in your control. It's just that you can't eat sugar. Quite the opposite is true
6. The hardest part about mornings are: 195-277. Yuck. And then having to go to work and smile for teenagers.
7. My favorite medical TV show is: Huh?
8. A gadget I couldn’t live without is: DEXCOM
9. The hardest part about nights are: Nights.
10. Each day I take 10 shots and _4_ pills & 2 vitamins. i also insert a new sensor site every 7 days for my continuous glucose sensor.
11. Regarding alternative treatments: There is no alterantive. Just do it old school. Medicine and discipline thanks.
12. If I had to choose between an invisible illness or visible I would choose: NO thanks.
13. Regarding working and career: I have both. I work at diabetes and teaching is my career.
14. People would be surprised to know: How really, really, really hard it is. we make it look easy but each day invites a layer of gut wrenching truth about the D.
15. The hardest thing to accept about my new reality has been: scratch out "hardest" insert BEST. Then, the answer would be how to truly be healthy and know what that means.
16. Something I never thought I could do with my illness that I did was: Get it right.

That is something I can never have again. If I was stranded anywhere I would die. Even if there was food, water and shelter. That is always a strange feeling.
20. A new hobby I have taken up since my diagnosis is: poking fingers, injecting insulin, logging numbers on a computer, counting carbs, watching arrows, finding out information on every complication possible. Wanna join?

D is for DEXCOM

See Him. He is down in the corner. It says my B.S. level. He hangs out on the coffee table a lot. I love Him.
I shall call him Clint (Eastwood), Otis(The blood hound)or Sleuth(as in sleuth)....all who sniff and snuff out the bad guys...."sneaky sugars".
This little gadget has changed my life in just 24 hours! In the words of Mike "how can this not be mandatory?" Check it out at dexcom.com.

A1C Bleah

I was hoping for 7, I got 8.2. The last two weeks however have been 6.4! Good. I am also working towards getting a Dexcom. I sort of miss being supersonic and robotic. This flower is my tribute to the A1C test. Beautiful but slightly imperfect.

These little dangles really have no relation to robots. But they are cute ( I know a little hard to see here) and a great deal for gemstone earrings -$10. Super great with a sundress or jeans.

Butterflies.

Luxurious Lanyards and Butterflies.

This is an example of the end piece and clasp that I use on the lanyards. This blue beauty has a butterfly theme. Super cute!

Yeah Butterflies... This one I found in our yard. And some days...oh to be in envy of them. The seek out the sweet sugars of the yard. Still able to dance and be light after gorging on sweetness. I am low as I write this. Perhaps I will go find a flower to suck on.

All lanyards are $14.

Mermaid Stars and good sugar

I was back and forth today between shooting flower photos and finishing an order for the Mermaid Stars necklace. I love this piece, so light and pretty. It reminded of this flower. The clasp is so great -a Mermaid!

I am also having great luck with my blood sugars this week! I am looking forward to a great A1C test on Monday.
Oh yes, I have also done cute earrings to match this necklace (and of course, each one is slightly unique!)

Reasons and Sushi

I spent alot of time in the garden today (o.k, for me "the garden" means taking a few photos of flowers and touching a little dirt) and it made me happy like "The Rainbow" necklace. -$14
I love these earrings and wear them almost every day. Practical and easy to wear. "Swirls"-$10

So, I have been having way too much fun putting up all of these pictures, making the jewelry and hoarding beads. I needed to remind myself of the real reason I began doing all of this...for diabetes! I spent the afternoon reading one of my favorite blogs http://www.sixuntilme.com/
It makes me laugh so hard and Kerri is my absolute diabetic twin! I've had a great two days of blood sugars...this always happens after sushi. I think it's the ginger.

Circles of fun!

Beautiful and simple...wire wrap bracelets- $12

The Wrap Bracelets are available in any color. They wrap around the wrist 3-4 times(more or less if requested) and are made with memory wire. The are super easy to take on and off, I think that is why they are also really popular for kids and teenagers too!

Website: http://www.121sweet.vpweb.com

I am trying this entirely new thing...a website about the jewels! I hope to be able to put up many photos of different pieces and provide a place to order! Let me know if anyone can help...I am a total rookie!

The Rainbow of lanyards

I think these lanyards are so beautiful that I make them so they can also be worn as necklaces. The ID hook detaches and is ready to wear after-office. I can certainly do a permanent clip upon request. Most colors are available with any sort of fun motif (butterflies, fish, sun and moons, etc.) if desired. Be beautiful at work and beyond! Lanyards-$14
